Your rebate is based on results
During your home energy audit, we build an energy model of your home and calculate the Total Energy Savings your recommended improvements will deliver. That percentage determines your rebate:

Every percentage point above 5% adds $200 to your rebate, up to the $7,500 maximum. Rebates cannot exceed 50% of your total eligible project cost (60% for income qualified households). Most whole home projects that include air sealing, insulation, and an equipment upgrade land comfortably in the double digits for projected savings.
Zero interest financing through your utility bill
Whatever cost remains after your rebate can typically be financed through your utility's on bill repayment program:
- 0% interest. No interest charges, no origination fees, no hidden costs.
- Up to $25,000 per household for Whole Home projects.
- 7 year term for smaller projects, 10 year term for larger projects. Income qualified customers receive the 10 year term at any project size.
- Qualification that starts with your utility bill. With PSE&G, on bill repayment is based on roughly 12 months of on time utility payment history rather than a credit check; utilities that finance through a lending partner apply the lender's standard guidelines.
- One simple payment on your regular monthly utility bill.

Adding a heat pump? There is a second rebate for that
If your project includes switching from gas or oil heat to a high efficiency electric heat pump, New Jersey's Building Decarbonization programs add their own incentives, up to $10,000 ($12,000 for income qualified households) for a full heat pump conversion. A realistic example
Say your audit projects 15% energy savings for a $16,000 project that includes air sealing, attic insulation, and a high efficiency heating system. Your rebate would be $4,000, leaving $12,000, which you could finance over ten years at 0% for $100 per month on your utility bill. Many homeowners find the energy savings from the improvements offset a meaningful share of that payment. Your own numbers will depend on your home, and your audit report will show them to you before you commit to anything.
Health and safety work is covered too
The program allows up to $2,000 in health and safety measures to be included in your project scope, such as combustion safety improvements, ventilation, or moisture remediation. These costs are eligible for incentives and financing just like the rest of your project.
Enhanced benefits for income qualified households
Income qualified customers receive extended financing terms, and rebate caps rise from 50% to 60% of project costs. There are several ways to qualify, including household income up to 400% of federal poverty guidelines or participation in programs like LIHEAP, SNAP, or SSI. Frequently asked questions
How do I find out what my rebate would be?
Schedule a $99 home energy audit (a $299 value). Your audit report includes your home's energy model, projected savings, and your estimated rebate. The $99 is credited toward your project if you proceed.
Is the rebate a check in the mail?
No, and that is good news. Your rebate is applied directly to your project invoice, so you only ever pay the net amount.
Can I just get a rebate for a new furnace without the other work?
Whole Home projects must include air sealing and insulation when the assessment identifies a need. That requirement exists because equipment performs dramatically better in a sealed, insulated home, and it is what makes the double digit savings, and larger rebates, achievable.
What if my project is bigger than $25,000?
You can pay the difference directly, or if your project includes qualifying heat pump work, combined Whole Home and Building Decarbonization financing can reach $75,000.
How long are these incentives available?
Current program terms run through June 30, 2027. Funding and guidelines can change, so acting under current terms is the safest path.
Who qualifies for these incentives?
Most New Jersey homeowners do. The program serves owner occupied existing homes of one to four units served by a New Jersey utility. There is no income requirement to participate, and income qualified households receive enhanced benefits.
Which utilities offer the program?
All seven New Jersey regional utilities: PSE&G, JCP&L, Atlantic City Electric, Rockland Electric, New Jersey Natural Gas, South Jersey Gas, and Elizabethtown Gas. Your incentives come through the utility that serves your home.
Are heat pumps covered?
Yes. Heat pumps are eligible, and switching from gas or oil heat to a high efficiency electric heat pump can add Building Decarbonization rebates on top of your Whole Home incentive.
What is Total Energy Savings?
Total Energy Savings is the percentage of energy your recommended improvements are projected to save, calculated from your home energy audit model. It sets your rebate: a higher projected savings percentage earns a larger rebate.
