$1.3 Million Worth of Home Improvement Incentives Uncovered for Summit Homeowners

Sustainability is a key focus area for the City of Summit and last year, with the help of the Summit Environmental Commission and the City Administrator, Michael Rogers, the city issued a public RFP seeking the services of a vendor to perform home energy audits for Summit residents.

The program, dubbed the Summit Home Energy Insight program, easily accomplishing its goal of performing one hundred home energy audits, delighted its 100th participant with a gift basked comprised of energy efficient products.

To date, this program has helped residents of Summit uncover more than $1.3 million dollars worth of incentives available through the New Jersey Home Performance with Energy Star program for home improvement upgrades.

The Summit Home Energy Insight campaign has helped residents of the City of Summit uncover more than three hundred thousand dollars worth of cash-back incentives and more than one million dollars worth of zero or low interest incentive financing.

As part of Summit's Home Energy Insight program, Summit Residents are offered the chance to have an energy assessment performed on their home for just $49 (well below the market rate of $300-$500). For many people, getting an energy audit sounds difficult or is not even on the to-do list because they don’t know about it. Many New Jersey homeowners are unaware that significant incentives are available to them to help offset the cost of installing the recommended upgrades.

Summit Mayor Nora Radest helped launch the Summit Home Energy Insight program by allowing Hometowne TV to document a home energy audit being performed on her own home.  The episode recently aired on the 'See You Around Town' series which is produced by Hometowne Television and hosted by Summit Mayor Nora Radest.

The Summit Environmental Commission, who's mission is to provide leadership and vision on actions and policies of sustainability, including the health, well - being and quality of life of its residents, was instrumental in organizing the Summit Home Energy Insight campaign.  Beth Lovejoy, Chair of the Environmental Commission shared the experience she had with a home energy audit that Ciel performed on her home and the upgrades that were subsequently installed in her home.

Summit's Home Energy Insight campaign encourages residential energy audits that help homeowners discover where and how their home is using energy inefficiently and what can be done to reduce their home's consumption.
